THANK YOU FOR HELPING TO MAKE
THE FOOD FAIR A GREAT SUCCESS!

We held our 3rd Shandon Local Food Fair on Saturday, 24th March at Polwarth Church Hall.  We would like to thank all helpers, stall holders, donors of prizes and, of course, the shoppers!

Great Stalls for Food Shopping
John Muir Country Store Arran cheeses and oatcakes; Creelers fish and seafood; Whitmuir farm meat, eggs and bread; Lila’s Cupcakes; Dough re mi cupcakes and bakery;  Garvald bakery; Oxenfoord organic veg, flowers and preserves; The Magic Teapot (tea and dried fruits); Phantassie (veg, fruit and preserves).

Cards and Gifts
We branched out from food a little with Phoenix Cards, local glass made by Symphony, Emma’s Jewellery and Small Green Spaces’ window boxes and garden accessories.

Lunch
Well Hung and Tender cooked their bacon, Aberdeen Angus burgers and sausages at the barbecue and in the café; there were veggie treats courtesy of Eclectic Picnic; glasses of Laprig apple juice; hot drinks and mugs of home-made soup (courtesy of our chef, Ally Boyd).

Information Stalls
Information and picture boards from our own events and the Royal Edinburgh Community Garden were on display. Information was also available on veg boxes, Zero Waste Scotland, Gorgie Farm and the Steamiebakehouse Community Bakery.

Kids’ Activities
Kids had great fun with a quiz sheet, drawing wall, colouring in, decorating chocolate eggs and making cress head people.

As you can see from the pictures below, we also had a famous face at the Fair.  None other than Ian Rankin! He popped in and did a bit of shopping at some of our food stalls.  Later that evening, he tweeted: “Went to @shandonfood Local Food Fair. 3 tombola tickets won me 2 prizes. Bought cheese and curly kale but am eating chocolate…”.

All in all, the day was a great success.  Thanks again to everyone who made it such a fantastic event.
