Community Garden Afternoon: First Sunday of the Month

Shandon Local Food Group welcome all ages to join us on the first Sunday of the month 2pm – 4:30pm at the Royal Edinburgh Community Garden.  We’ll be doing a bit of light gardening, and stopping for some chat and a cuppa.

Our first sessions of 2013 were Sunday 3rd February (path work), 3rd March (refreshing wood chip, sowing in glasshouse),  5th May (tending the strawberries), 2nd June (weeding soft fruit and mulching), 7th July (weeding and harvesting peas), 4th August (very hot, harvesting potatoes), 1st September (admiring the sun flowers, courgettes etc and plenty to harvest), 6th October (apple harvest).  The next sessions will be 3rd November and 1st December.  There are still some potatoes to harvest and apples to take home.

There is no need to have any experience of gardening and Food Group members of all ages are welcome (though children should be supervised by a parent/carer).

Please let Sue know you are planning to come (mckendrick2007@talktalk.net so we can manage numbers).  For insurance purposes, please make sure you are a Shandon Local Food Group member – simply email shandonfood@hotmail.co.uk.

Directions: From Shandon go along Myreside Road, past the Watsons Pavillion, stadium and foot bridge; after 100 metres you will see the garden entrance through a large black gate on the left hand side.  There is a portacabin with toilet, tools and small kitchen where we meet.  Some refreshments provided.

Hope to see you there!
